I Fought the Lawrie trades:
Round 4 MLB pick 7
Round 12 MLB pick 7
Round 2 MiLB pick 10
High and Tight trades:
Round 4 MLB pick 15
Round 12 MLB pick 15
Round 1 MiLB pick 15
This trade may make little sense when you look at it right now but it is largely due to the fact I can now pick my favourite minor leaguer - Addison Russell. In this league, since we only have 10 minor leaguers - one of my strategies is to focus on having a really strong MiLB system. Russell is a player I strongly believe in with 20/20/280 potential at SS and in only a years time. There's a few guys who are rated higher who I am passing up but you have to go with who you want and Russell is who I want.
In return, I'm giving up my 2nd MiLB pick - with which I would never have got someone with the potential of Russell. Furthermore, we are swapping picks in the 4th and 12th rounds. By the 12th round, this won't matter too much but the upgrade to Stuart in the 4th round will help him target someone more easily.
Any questions on reasoning - just let me know but I hope that explains it adequately.

I confirm this trade. My thinking is simply to move down in MiLB because I think there are still several solid players available. Besides, I pick #2 in round 2 which is only 3 picks away. So in theory I am moving down a few spots in MiLB in order to move up in MLB in rounds 4 and 12.

actually Lawrie, I've seen a couple of articles speculating that he could be up as early as August 2014... provided he performs well this year.. and that J. Lowrie will be used as trade bait. btw, I saw a rumor that Gentry may get a shot at starting in left field with Cespedes DHing full-time....true you think?

Cespedes won't be used as a DH full time. The main reasoning for this is that the A's use platoons and are going to want to take advantage of that - it's their new moneyball - platoons and depth. John Jaso probably can't catch again and hasn't yet been cleared to do so so it is speculated by Susan Slusser and Jane Lee that he will hit against righties at DH and Crisp/Cespedes will against lefties. That clears Gentry to get in at CF a good proportion of the time. They'd be mad to play Crisp at CF over Gentry - the latter is a much, much better centre fielder - more range and no crisp-like noodle arm. When Gentry plays - Crisp should DH.
Regarding Russell - I think that will depend on how the season goes. If the A's are competing for the playoffs - I think it would take both a) a spectacular season in AA then AAA from Russell and b) a spectacular offer for Lowrie. Given Beanes off-season moves, he is going on all in for a world series and knows his window to compete is short due to probably losing Cepsy and others after the 2015 season. The farm system is bare other than Russell so when those guys go - it will be reloading time.
I personally think Russell will start at AA (he was only in A+ last year albeit at 19 yrs old) and get moved to AAA in August - not MLB. Of course, if they aren't competing for the play-offs - Lowrie definitely gets dealt and Russell gets called up.

Based on your profile picture, Lawrie, I would say you're a huge fan of the A's anyway. Oh, and thanks for getting me into this "mess"... VBG! We all know High loves to make the "deal". haha Appears to be a good for all concerned.
